Pierre Pestieau holds a Ph. D. from Yale University, 1972. He has been assistant professor from 1971 to 1976 at Cornell University and full professor at Université de Liège till 2008. 

He is member of CORE (Louvain-La-Neuve), associate member of PSE (Paris) and CEPR, IZA, and CESifo fellow.

He is co-editor of Journal of Public Economics and associate editor of FinanzArchiv, CESifo Economic Studies, Journal of Public Economic Theory  and Economica. He has received the Francqui Prize in 1989. He has recently published "The Welfare State in the European Union" (Oxford University Press, 2005)
